Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some useful pieces of information. If you can’t find the information that you need, please contact me.

Where are you based?

Ilkley Clinic:

I am based in the centre of Ilkley, at The Grove Therapy, 62 The Grove, Ilkley, LS29 9PA.

As you look at the front of The Grove Therapy, go through the door to the left of the building (across the gravel) and around to the back of the building. I am based in the basement. Please come into the waiting area and I will come to collect you.

Free parking (for one hour) is available on The Grove outside the clinic.

Do I need a referral from my GP or my child’s school?

No, you don’t need a referral from your child’s GP or school for them to be seen. All you need to do is contact me directly to arrange a free 15 minute initial discussion or initial assessment appointment.

Who needs to attend the first appointment?

If your child is age 12 or under, I would usually ask to meet with parents or carers only for the initial assessment appointment. This enables me to develop an understanding of your child’s developmental history and background and gives us opportunity to speak openly about the issues that led you to get in touch. Individual work with young people, will only begin if I consider it to be in their best interests following initial consultation.

Do I come into sessions with my child or young person?

Depending on age/presentation, I often find that it is helpful to meet children and young people and their parent or carer together for their first therapy appointment. After this session I will discuss with you both whether I think individual sessions are appropriate, or whether joint sessions would be more suitable.

How much do sessions cost and how do I pay?

My session fees are £110 per 50 minute session.

Please contact me regarding my fees for becoming part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Payment is via bank transfer or cash.

I am registered with a number of health insurers. If you have private health insurance, please contact me to discuss this further.

How do I cancel my appointment?

If you need to cancel an appointment, please let me know as soon as possible via email:

contact@drclaudiasalt.co.uk

I require 24 hours notice to be able to refund or rearrange your appointment. If less than 24 hours notice is given, unfortunately I am unable to refund or rearrange your appointment.

Do I need to remain onsite whilst my child is in their appointment?

I expect parents or carers to remain in the waiting room whilst their child or young person is being seen. This reassures your child or young person that you are there for them if they need the loo, become upset or feel ill, etc.

Where appropriate, I also often ask parents/carers to come into sessions, to share what we have worked on (with the agreement of the child or young person). This is part of my collaborative working approach to promote the best outcomes for the children/young people I am working with.

A comfortable waiting area is provided and refreshments and bathroom facilities are available.

Do you routinely inform my child’s GP or school about my appointments?

I do not routinely inform your child’s GP or school regarding our work together. The only instance where I would need to contact your child’s GP or school is if I had safeguarding concerns. If this was the case, I would always try and discuss this with you and your child or young person before contacting your GP or school, where possible.

If I feel it would be helpful for me to inform others of our work, then I will discuss this with you during our sessions and obtain consent.

Are sessions confidential?

All appointments with Dr Claudia Salt are confidential. Details of your appointments are not shared with anyone without your consent. There are however two important exceptions to this:

Risk or safeguarding issues:

If information is shared with me that indicates that you, your child/young person or another person is at risk of harming themselves, is at risk of harming others or is at risk of being harmed by others, then I have a duty to disclose this with the appropriate authority or agency. This might include your GP (including your child’s GP); social care; the police and school or college. Wherever possible, I will discuss the reasons I need to do this with you first and will keep you updated on the process.

Supervision:

I receive monthly supervision for my clinical work from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who works in the same clinical area. During supervision the main themes of sessions with your child/young person may be shared and discussed. No names are shared, first initials are used instead. This is to ensure I provide the best practice for you and your child/young person..

I have concerns that my child or young person is at risk of harming themselves – what should I do?

Dr Claudia Salt does not provide a crisis service.

If you require urgent help, please ring your GP and ask for an emergency appointment. If out of hours, please call 111.

If you feel your child’s life is at immediate risk, then call 999 and ask for an ambulance, or go straight to your local A&E department.
